Trump is first and foremost at war with the working people of the United States...

Saturday 21 June 2025, by Karob, Robert Paris

After Biden, Trump is first at war with American workers, not just migrants

Trump’s demagogy pretends to only attack foreigners and especially migrants, and even other major economic competing powers, but in fact, he attacks US workers first: rising inflation, falling real wages, more job losses than creations, deteriorating working conditions, attacks on social and democratic rights, attacks on immigrants, attacks on working conditions, attacks on public services, attacks on public health, attacks on social programs, attacks on science and free information, attacks on culture, attacks on justice, attacks on solidarity, attacks on black people, attacks on freedoms, etc., etc.

In 142 executive orders issued since taking office, Trump has undermined every social program, every freedom, every political and social right of the working people of the United States.

To break future social mobilizations and struggles, Trump is wielding the big stick to portray himself as a strong power. He makes himself feared by the unions. He silences the Democrats. He impresses the pseudo-left. He breaks opponents, having them arrested under various pretexts.

He wants to be the most antisocial president in the United States. He owes this to the capitalists who subsidized his return to the presidency, and even to those who didn’t support him. This isn’t simply a personal failing. It’s because the capitalist class needs the big stick to govern during a period of collapse of its system. The far right becomes indispensable from the moment capitalism no longer works and any protest becomes extremely dangerous for the system itself.

The measures he is taking will not save the system from its inevitable death, and will not even save the United States from falling behind other countries like China or India, particularly in terms of industrial production.

By pushing for massive aid to American capitalists, he is fueling inflation. One of the massive aids to the trusts consists of strong support for US armaments.

By pushing for ultra-violent measures against migrants, he is fueling fascist sentiments among a section of the population.

By whitewashing the ultra-violent activists of the American far right, he justifies and protects in advance their atrocities against working people.

By supporting cryptocurrencies, it delays the bursting of this speculative bubble but makes it even more explosive and dangerous.

By expanding the businesses of a small handful of financial magnates like himself and Musk, he widens the gap between the richest and the rest of the population, a chasm that becomes a primary cause of the social destabilization of the USA, which is itself the cause of the increase in political and social dictatorship.

By presenting himself as a "divisive personality," a kind of dictatorial madman with no limits, no shame, and no fear of anything, not even American legality, he covers up the responsibility of the propertied class for his anti-social atrocities. The fact that the Democrats are incapable of blaming him for this is a testament to how useful the Trump personal circus is to the wealthy.

By pursuing a madly aggressive foreign policy, he also covers up the violence of his domestic policy against the working people of the USA.

By waging a fierce economic war, he covers up the US’s preparation for world war.

By attacking federal workers, firing many of them, and threatening to fire those who do not obey, Trump is equipping himself with an obedient state apparatus ready to accept his orders, even the most violent and dictatorial against the people of the United States.

At the same time, by giving the example of massive and violent cuts in public sector jobs, it encourages and covers up all the bosses who lay off or close businesses, who attack wages and working conditions.

By massively aiding capitalists, Trump is increasing the massive US debt he claims to be fighting by laying off federal workers and cutting social welfare.

By breaking the independence of the press and the judiciary, it makes the state apparatus more capable of acting in a violent and bloody repression of civil war.

What problem does the Trump method, that of a civil war government, address? The fear of a resurgence of social revolution in the USA!

What force can tackle Trumpism? The social revolution in the USA, and it alone!

Trump expresses nothing other than the need for American capitalists to employ the brutal and violent means of counterrevolution. It is the need to oppose the risk of a revolutionary upsurge that has driven the propertied classes to choose the Trump method.

Yes, American billionaires fear socialism—that is, worker power. “We are alarmed by renewed calls to embrace socialism in our country,” Trump declared in his State of the Union address. “America will never be a socialist country.”

Of course, such a speech may seem to recall the classic positions taken by American leaders, but they sound above all like a response to the wave of revolutions started by the "Arab Spring" and which reached the USA on the occasion of racist crimes against Black people, particularly those committed by the police forces, and the armed repression of Trump, then president, which followed them.

What’s preventing the Democratic Party and the union apparatus from opposing Trump isn’t their own vested interests; it’s that they’re as afraid as the Trumpists and the capitalists of the risk of a revolutionary upsurge among working people, and they hope Trump can protect them from it. In any case, they don’t want to risk weakening Trump when he fights against the social revolution.

This fear of the wealthy does not stem from the development of anti-capitalist organizations or the emergence of a large number of activists against the social and political system. It stems from an objective fact: capitalism has reached its limits and its functioning is definitively dead. The dynamic engine of capitalism no longer works: the productive reinvestment of profits in production and the production of new profits drawn from the surplus value extracted from human labor works less and less.

The richest Americans aren’t afraid of earning less money: they’ve never been richer! Last year, the 19 richest households in the United States increased their wealth by $1 trillion, reaching $2.6 trillion. They aren’t afraid of being rejected by the government: the state has never supported them so much, whether under Trump or Biden. But for big business, it’s not enough to make money; it must be able to transform it into capital, that is, into producing new profits. And that’s where the machine breaks down, due to a lack of unlimited capacity to find profitable productive investments.

The ratio between total capital and capital reinvested in production is constantly increasing, forcing the bulk of capital to invest in speculation and thus increasingly undermining the entire capitalist system. The system, having reached its limits of capitalization, is destroying itself. All artificial methods to make it last are exhausted, and the ruling classes know full well that the social revolution can no longer be limited, stifled, diverted, or deceived once capitalism proves incapable, in the United States itself, of providing work for the majority of workers. Hence the need for the propertied classes to prepare the political and social counterrevolution even before this fall of the system becomes evident to workers. This therefore has nothing to do with Trump’s personality, even if it serves this counterrevolutionary perspective well.

This means that only the perspective of socialism can oppose the Trumpist counter-revolution and that only the revolution of workers’ councils represents an alternative to the violent drift of American capitalism.

This fight is not one of Democrats versus Republicans, left versus right, peacemakers versus warriors, or anti-fascists versus the far right. It is a fight for working people’s councils uniting employees, youth, the unemployed, retirees, women, migrants, Black people, all the oppressed and exploited, into revolutionary organizations that take control of all of society and take power and wealth out of the hands of the capitalists.
